Meet LifeScape's Newest Concierge Care Physician, Dr. Zoë McMillen

Dr. Zoë McMillen is LifeScape's newest Concierge Care Physician. She believes concierge care is the future of medicine as it allows her to practice root cause healthcare and gives her the ability to host longer appointments where she can truly get to know her patients and treat them with their beliefs, history, and goals in mind. Root cause healthcare is vital in working towards correcting a patient's health condition through investigating the reasons a patient has a health condition and then putting a plan in place to assist in fixing those issues.

A Quick Q&A with Zoë McMillen, MD

Why did you become a healthcare provider?

I have a deep passion to help people. At a young age, I was exposed to the healthcare system and doctors for severe asthma that led to multiple hospital admissions I often would dream of being a doctor and when playing at home I would pretend to be the doctor for my stuffed animal "patients". To this day, I enjoy listening to my patients and helping solve the issues affecting them and helping them to live happier, healthier lives. I feel privileged to have patients confide and trust in me.

Why did you decide to join LifeScape?

In medical school I had the amazing opportunity to shadow Dr. Wilder and was impressed by the level of care she gave each of her patients, as well as her enthusiasm for improving the healthcare system. I am excited to join a concierge practice which allows for me to spend more time getting to know my patients, their conditions and develop a plan for their specific needs. I also look forward to joining such an awesome team of physicians and other medical professionals.

How would you describe your relationship with your patients?

I think trust, empathy, and compassion are some of the most important elements in treating patients. My patients know I will listen to them, and guide them on a pathway to health, but at the same time I practice autonomous medicine which allow patients to determine if a recommended treatment would work for them, or how we need to tweak the treatment to suit their individual needs.

What areas of health are you most interested in?

If I have to limit it, some areas of medicine I am most interested in are: preventive care, women's healthcare and pediatric care.

What conditions do you see most often?

The most common conditions that I see are Anxiety, Depression, as well as chronic health conditions including Hypertension and Diabetes.

Best advice you’ve ever received?

As a child my mom used to say a phrase at the end of a day while tucking me into bed, whether it was good or bad, that "tomorrow is another day". This stuck with me, because it is true that each day we get a fresh start to either redo something if it didn't go how we would have liked, try to repeat a 'good' day, or strive for something new.

What do you do to promote your own health?

As a working mom of 2 young children I am guilty of caring for others at the expense of myself.  As you may relate, this is a constant struggle that I continue to work on.  I try to remember the line that flight attendants say, you have to place your own oxygen mask on first before you help your children. I enjoy playing and running around with my children, going to the gym a few times a week, and eating organic home cooked foods.
