Top Health Tech Trends: Wearables, Genetics & Imaging

Written by Dr. Yousef Mohammadi | May 13, 2025 11:40:09 PM

In the not-so-distant past, visiting a doctor was largely reactive—something you did after symptoms appeared. Today, thanks to rapid advances in health technology, proactive and personalized care is becoming the norm.

This new era of healthcare is more personalized, preventative, and data-driven than ever before. As a physician, I’m especially excited about three major trends that are reshaping how we approach wellness: wearable health devices, genetic-based care, and full-body imaging.

Here's how I feel these trends and devices are transforming the patient experience:

Wearable Health Devices

Wearable devices have come a long way. What started with step tracking has expanded into tools that monitor heart rate, sleep quality, blood oxygen, stress levels, and more—all in real time.

Devices like the Oura Ring,  Apple Watch,  Whoop 4.0, and the FitBit are no longer just fitness tools; they’re providing meaningful health insights to both patients and providers that can support early intervention and better long-term outcomes.

Genetic-Based Care

Genetic testing is opening the door to a more precise, individualized approach to care, especially in nutrition recommendations. By understanding your unique genetic makeup, we can better predict your risk for certain conditions, personalize your treatment plans, and medications. It’s an incredibly powerful tool—especially when used thoughtfully and in partnership with your provider.

Full-Body Imaging

Full-body imaging offers a comprehensive look inside your body—even when you’re feeling perfectly healthy. Using advanced MRI or CT scans, we can sometimes catch early signs of disease that wouldn’t otherwise be detected. That being said there is not adequate data in USA for robust meaningful applicable use of the full body imaging quite yet.  While not for everyone, it’s a technology that’s gaining interest among patients who want a more proactive approach to their health.
