What to Expect When Working with a Functional Dietitian
Cultivate a Resilient Gut
The foundation of health begins in the gut. Here resides a vast diversity of bacteria and fungi referred to as the microbiome. When in balance we experience healthy weight, positive mood, abundant energy, glowing skin and a strong immune system. When out of balance, undesirable conditions arise such as anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome, undesired weight gain, the production of TMAO (a chemical that contributes to reduced artery health and cardiovascular disease), poor blood sugar regulation, and a lack of the feel good neurotransmitter, serotonin.
Inflammation is associated with arthritis, irritable bowel, cancer, chronic fatigue, heart disease, elevated blood pressure, sleep apnea, and diabetes. The fire is fed by diets high in processed foods, damaged fats, sugar/artificial sugar, excess alcohol, and refined carbohydrates.
Cooling inflammation is a multi-step process. “De-flaming” the diet, retooling lifestyle habits around sleep, stress reduction/interruption, and daily movement all play a synergistic role in cooling the body and enhancing vitality.
Small steps lead to real change over time and by addressing inflammation from a whole life perspective these changes become lifelong sustainable habits.
Heal from the Inside Out
When we are out of balance it may be necessary to follow a specialized diet plan for a finite time period to allow for complete healing. Often, identifying and removing food sensitivities can be the first step in the process. This can be accomplished either by using a specialized lab test offered at LifeScape Premier or by following an elimination diet protocol. Food sensitivities are often the first clue pointing to leaky gut and bacterial imbalances. Removing trigger foods and introducing natural healing agents like aloe vera, marshmallow and L-glutamine can help expedite a person back to health.

Love for LifeScape Nutrition
One of our patients, Pam, recently experienced a brilliant health breakthrough.
Pam was on 30+ supplements with severe diabetes and had been overweight for years.
Together, we cleaned up her supplement protocol, diet and lifestyle choices. She not only lost weight, but also dramatically improved her fasting blood sugar levels. These changes made an incredible difference in her overall wellness and vitality. Pam recently shared this touching testimonial:
“I want you to know how much you have blessed my life. You have given me hope and encouragement. Praying for you to be encouraged and have hope for the hurdles you may have in your life and that someone will bless you with help as you have blessed me…Thanks from the bottom of my heart!”

“I have been very attentive to having a wider variety of vegetables with each meal, eating a probiotic-rich food with each meal, and having zero gluten, dairy, or sugar. I also stopped drinking coffee. I feel that my blood sugars are stabilizing and I don’t get hungry between meals (no more craving chips or Lara bars as snacks!). I have been meditating and taking baths/going through the night time routine [Dana and I] discussed, and I have been sleeping like a rock. I am amazed at all of these changes that I’ve seen in just one week — I haven’t even started the supplements yet! Those arrive today, so I’m eager to see how much better I feel once I get those on board. I’m truly in awe.”
