The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes the opportunity to socialize and enjoy favorite festive meals and treats. My personal favorite is butternut squash pie topped with cashew ‘whipped cream’ at True Foods Restaurant! No matter your favorite, read on for simple ‘hacks’ that can help you indulge in them and stay aligned with your long-term health goals during this celebratory time.

Holid-ify Your Favorite Simple Dishes, Drinks, or Sweets

Try these simple swaps or add-ons to keep the focus on nourishing meals plus holiday flair. Here are a few examples to add a festive twist:
  • Grain Bowls: Grains like quinoa, rice, buckwheat or millet are delicious with roasted squash, organic cranberries, and toasted pecans. Sprinkle with
    cinnamon and a drizzle of pure maple syrup for a warm and comforting winter dish
  • Sparkling Mocktails: Skip the sugary holiday punch and make a refreshing mocktail with sparkling water, a splash of 100% pomegranate or cranberry juice, fresh lime, and a few sprigs of mint. It’s a festive, feel-good drink.
  • Healthy Sweets: Swap out refined sugar for natural alternatives like dates or maple syrup in holiday treats. Lean into dark chocolate-dipped fruit or spiced nuts — simple, satisfying, and full of seasonal flavor.

Shift Your Mindset: Food is for Joy, Not Guilt

During the holidays, it’s easy to fall into the mindset of “all or nothing” thinking. It may be: I’ll enjoy everything now and get back on track in January, or I’ll hold back and miss out on enjoying holiday favorites or sharing fully in social events.
