Nutrition Transformation: Patty’s Inspirational Story

I'm thrilled to share one of my patients' incredible success stories. Over the past year, Patty has undergone a remarkable transformation using nutrition and lifestyle as her foundation of success. Read on as we delve into the details of her journey to a healthier, more vibrant and satisfying life.

The Turning Point

As Patty and I sat down for a chat, we reflected on the significant mental and physical changes that have occurred for her in just under a year of dedicated effort.

Patty stated that her motivation for change built slowly over time as she stepped back and reflected on her quality of life. She was fatigued during family vacations, experiencing joint pain with sustained activity, and starting to become concerned with her blood chemistry and increasing risk for chronic disease associated with high levels of inflammation. She began to see the tie in between her emotional health and her physical health.   

“I had all these little moments that were coming up in my life that said, ‘I need to make a change”.

Shortly afterwards, she reached out to me at the suggestion of a loved one who I had also worked with, and set up her initial consultation with me at LifeScape Nutrition.

The Old Approach

Before connecting with me at Lifescape, Patty had attempted various weight loss approaches, including liquid diets and calorie restrictions paired with daily or twice daily intense workout routines.

Despite losing the weight, and subsequently gaining it back once she returned to her normal diet and exercise routines, she acknowledged that these approaches were not sustainable. She admits that by focusing on calorie counting rather than the quality of the foods she was choosing left her in a stalemate.   

“I wasn’t making a life change, I wasn’t really understanding what I was doing. I was looking at the calories and exercise like math,” added Patty.

She needed something more sustainable. She needed a functional nutrition approach.


Discovering Gut Health

Patty's journey took a positive turn when she learned about the importance of gut health from her sister, who was enrolled in a nutrition program with me, and reaping the benefits of a whole-foods diet.

Intrigued by the connection between gut health, inflammation, and overall well-being, Patty decided to align with me on her nutrition journey.



Educational Transformation

In my work with Patty, I was able to introduce her to the world of probiotics and the significance of fermented foods in maintaining a healthy gut. 

Patty admits she used to view probiotics as merely a pill in the refrigerator, but now understands the broader concept of nourishing the gut to dampen inflammation and create a foundation for long-lasting health.

“It wasn’t just a one-time visit with Dana. I’ve learned something new every time I’ve been here this year,” said Patty.

Aha Moments and Lifestyle Change

Patty shared her aha moments, particularly the realization that clean eating has become second nature. She no longer needs drastic measures to maintain her weight, having shed around 40 pounds since her commitment to a sustainable diet and lifestyle changes. 

The focus now is on making mindful choices, avoiding processed foods, and paying attention to how food is sourced, emphasizing the concept of "you are what you eat and absorb."

Ongoing Support and Holistic Lifestyle

The success of Patty's journey lies not only in dietary changes but also in embracing a holistic lifestyle. Dana emphasizes the importance of support both from a professional perspective and within her own family and community.  Now Patty has the tools to make physical activity part of her daily life, has a mindful approach to food, and understands the role stress and quality sleep plays in the entire picture of optimal health.

Patty's Manifesto

Patty has even crafted a manifesto detailing her journey, offering insights into her lifestyle choices and the positive impact on her well-being to share with friends and family who ask the question, “How did you do it”?

She now knows it's not just about what she eats, but how she eats, moves, thinks, and believes in the power of positive change built on a sustainable foundation over time.
